I know Ive got some serious pent up energy to get the hell out of dodge, but the question is, where to go?! Well, Lonely Planet has you covered with their Best in Travel for 2022 list. Here to give us a taste of their selections is Tia Larose. Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2022 gives all sorts of good advice, and the highlight is its lists of the ultimate travel destinations. There are THREE top ten lists: one for countries, one for regions, and one for cities. But since I always like to dream BIG, here are their top five countries. Slovenia is a country that often slips under the radar because it's hard to put into a single category. But turns out that's a bonus! The Eastern European country isn't strictly Mediterranean, or Balkan, or Alpine, but a wonderful mix of all three! Plus, the hiking is exceptional, especially in the areas around the gorgeous Lake Bled. In fourth spot, we find Belize, likely the simplest option here for American travelers. There are direct flights from many North American cities, and the national language is English. But PLEASE don't think the selling point here is convenience. The big draw is the Belize Barrier Reef, second in size only to the Great Barrier Reef of Australia, and every bit as glorious! Mauritius is, quite simply, a paradise. Located about seven hundred miles east of Madagascar, the island boasts majestic mountains, beautiful beaches, an abundance of flora and fauna, great food, and a vibrant nightlife. And if you're into it, the golf courses are world-class. In second place, we have Norway. It's consistently ranked among the happiest countries in the world, and it won't take guests long to figure out why. Though you absolutely must soak up the local culture, leave plenty of time to just be in nature. To butcher a common expression, you'll want to see the forest AND the trees! And at the top of the list, we find the Cook Islands, where you can experience the Polynesian perfection that is white sand beaches considered the most exquisite in the South Pacific. There are also many lagoons PERFECT for water activities, including swimming, boating, and snorkeling. And though sadly the island group is named for CAPTAIN Cook, not A cook, the tropical fruits are reportedly to die for. So now that you know where to go, time to start working on getting there. The computer scientist who claims to have invented Bitcoin has won a BIG court case against his former business partner. As a result, Craig Wright gets to keep all one-point-one million of his Bitcoin, worth roughly fifty-four BILLION dollars! That said, he WILL have to pay a hundred million dollars to his late partner's company for intellectual property infringement. and it's crazy to think that in this context, that's chump change! Heres something that may not surprise you, the share of wealth owned by the worlds richest people soared during the COVID pandemic. This according to a major new study on inequality. It showed that 2020 saw the steepest increase in billionaires wealth on record. And during the same period, 100 million people sank into poverty. The richest ten percent of the worlds population now takes FIFTY-TWO percent of global income, while the poorest HALF gets just EIGHT percent. And things are even starker when it comes to wealth! The richest ten percent own SEVENTY-SIX percent of all wealth, while the poorest half own a paltry TWO PERCENT! And America's Great Resignation continues! While the number of Americans quitting their jobs dipped a little in October, the Labor Department reports four-point-two million workers told their bosses they were leaving! Employers also posted eleven million job openings, marking the fifth straight month that number was in excess of ten million. Experts say this labor shortage is being driven by the large number of older workers who opted to take early retirement during the pandemic, and have yet to return to the workforce. One things for sure Alana, its a job seekers market out there. Which is great news for anyone wanting to switch up careers. Thanks Louise. Proceeds from the "Guitar Icons" instrument auction will benefit Music Rising, which helps independent musicians across the country. And finally, the US Captioning Company has released its list of 2021s words most commonly MISpronounced by newsreaders and people on television! The tricky list includes the Mexican chain "Chipotle", singer Billie "Eilish", the cryptocurrencies "Ethereum" and Dogecoin, NFL player Jason "Kelce", and, not surprisingly, the new COVID variant "Omicron".
