Description: Feature is hosted by one Dr. Ann Foster (Lindis Guinness with a funny British accent to add an air of class to all of this?). She's a shrink who specializes in helping women overcome the difficulties that the encounter in their marriages, particularly when it comes to matters of the boudoir. And while the movie might start off as a fairly standard doctor helps people with sexual issues' white coater, it soon tosses all of that to the side in favor of fantastically trippy footage of various people fucking under weird lighting and atop what looks like acetate platforms.The whole thing takes on a tinge of sci-fi during these scenes. Sure, Foster's dull narration keeps going and attempts to provide the picture with some sort of context but none of that matters when we voyage into the weird territory that this picture takes us into. There's really no story here and the participants guide us through the fairly tried and true look at different sexual positions, but the visuals are so bizarre and, yes, seriously cool looking that you don't mind so much. On a narrative level, this film is no better than its co-feature, but on a visual level 101 Acts Of Love is just to look at. The camerawork and lighting in the film is fantastic. The movie occasionally takes us outside, where we see a hanging out in the woods for some reason - oh, and there's occasional poetry thrown into the mix - but the vast majority of it focuses on weirdly lit people fucking each other on strange clear plastic.Susan Westcott , Debra Christian and Annette Michael show up here, and they all look quite good. The movie was previously released on DVD-R via Something Weird Video's Bucky Beaver's Stags (Volume 237 for those keeping score at home), Loops And ps series running forty-six minutes and taken from a rough and tumble old print. This Vinegar Syndrome release runs just over seventy-minutes so clearly it's much longer and, not so surprisingly, more explicit.

Even in the golden age of American pornographic cinema, plot (not the same thing as story) has never been a crucial concern; but THE CHAMBERMAIDS makes for a frustrating viewing experience if you pay more attention beyond the "action". Presumably the actress who played Sally was not available beyond the early shoot, and her absence makes complete hash out of the sitcom-level misunderstandings and presumed identities that make up the second half of the film what with Carol not batting an eye at meeting Mary Ellen (presumably the character was meant to be Sally since Mary Ellen couldn't make it) after her husband has called out her name. Instead of a punchline ending, the film just kind of fizzles out with a quizzical look from Richards held a few seconds too long. As far as golden age adult films go, it's sort of middle-of-the-road with flat direction, proficient photography, and a familiar cast of seventies porn regulars whose charisma makes up for the lack of invention in the script or its direction (the style is so generic as to be anonymous). It's worth seeing for diehard fans of seventies XXX (some of which might be able to ferret out the likely identity of its director). Transferred from a ratty, scratched-up 35mm theatrical print, Impulse Pictures' single-layer progressive, fullscreen transfer faithfully represents the materials with good detail and stable colors beneath the litany of damage. The Dolby Digital 2.0 mono track is clean apart from the damage associated with the print itself. I doubt Vinegar Syndrome or any other company doing restorations to classic adult films of late could have done significantly better with these materials. There are no credits besides the title and end card, but it may have less to do with incompleteness so much as the performers and crew being wary about attaching their names to a porn film during DEEP THROAT's obscenity trial. There are absolutely no extras.
